Swinging New Year's Eve

On the 31st December, join us for a seriously groovy New Years Eve Party with live music from Not the Beatles!

Get in the swing of things  (the sixties swing of course) and come on down to The Bowgie Inn, Crantock as we say ‘Hello Goodbye’ to the new year and the old one.

Not The Beatles will be belting out all the Beatles classics and you’ll be twisting and shouting to your hearts content in no time.

60s fancy dress is optional but we encourage you to channel your inner Sgt Pepper, Twiggy or Mary Quant as it’s always better that way! A bit of psychedelic printed nylon, a dash of flower power and a wig seems to get everyone in the party spirit… and as it’s the last party of 2014, you might as well give it 100%  ‘and let it be’

‘Money can’t buy me love’ but it can buy entry after 10pm for £10; all of which goes to Cornwall Hospice Care.

It’s free before 10, but to guarantee entry and a glass of bubbly at midnight, Hop on over to our facebook page to join our VIP Guestlist. Far out man!

So ‘Come Together’ and start planning your 60s outfit for the Bowgie’s New Year’s Party 2014 - it’s gonna be a ‘Hard Days Night’.

‘Help’ we just can’t stop dropping Beatles song titles…

What a Year!

During those seven days between Christmas and New Year everyone starts to feel a little nostalgic and at The Bowgie Inn, Crantock, we’re no exception.

As we eat the last of the Christmas chocolates from the tin we feel all warm and fuzzy as we remember the good times from the year just gone.

We’ve pulled pints through heat waves, down pours and gales. We’ve dished up dinners through the world cup, the rugby, the tennis and the grand prix.
We’ve watched the poppies on the headland and the longboard championship in the bay.
We’ve raised money for Cornwall Hospice Care, Macmillan and K9 Crusaders to mention a few.
There have been so many laughs at our special nights - from our recent James Bond Night to our Friday Night Revisited.
Yep, 2014 has been one brilliant year alright - and there’s even been appearances from a lightning jet, a bale push and even one of the worlds largest mountains, kilimanjaro.

Top it all off with more live music than you can shake a stick at and you’ll have to agree that this year will take some beating.

So as the last few hours tick by and the sun sets on the last day of 2014 we’d like to wish all of you a very Happy New Year and we are looking forward to seeing you in 2015!

Boxing Day Jam

As it's Christmas Eve, you have probably noticed that Christmas Day this year falls on a Thursday and we’re only opening 12-2pm.

We know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking ‘WHAT!!! THAT MEANS NO JAM NIGHT!’

Before you rush on mass to the Houses of Parliament waiving placards, petitions and pitchforks demanding they change the date of christmas so it doesn’t clash with The Melting Pot Jam Night at The Bowgie Inn, Crantock, just wait a moment.

We have already thought things through.
We’ve moved Jam Night to Boxing Day instead.
Did you really think we’d let something like Christmas get in the way of our much loved Jam session?
Plus we think it will be even better on Boxing Day anyway. It means you can all turn up wearing your new Christmas socks and pants and if you were lucky enough to get a new guitar you can bring it along and try it out!

So join us for The Boxing Day Jam Night from 7 - 10 at The Bowgie, it’s going to be a good one!

How to Survive Christmas Day

Let us set the scene. It’s mid-morning on Christmas day.
If you have kids you’ve been up since the crack of dawn watching them opening presents and feigning surprise when they shriek at what’s inside. This is not an easy facade to maintain whilst eating cornflakes with the pungent aroma of boiling sprouts wafting up your nose. The noise is slowly pushing you closer to the edge and you know you have to endure a whole day of this… with the added challenge of coping with your in-laws.

If you don’t have kids you haven’t been up long. You are nursing a hangover and sitting on the sofa watching The Only Fools and Horses christmas special; not because you want to watch it, but because you can’t reach the remote control. You have the sticky mess of a half chewed coffee cream (does anyone like the coffee ones?!?) stuck on your cheek and you are feeling far from festive.  You know that within the next hour or so you have to get dressed and go to your brother in-laws for christmas dinner. You will have to endure the incessant noise of children whose names you can’t remember and eat the poor excuse for a christmas dinner you will inevitably be served.

Sound familiar? If your Christmas is lacking a bit of cheer come to the Bowgie Inn Crantock from 12 - 2 on Christmas day where we’ll be pulling pints of the stuff!

So before the family arrive or before you knock the door of your host, plan a little detour to the Bowgie to enjoy a drink, a chat and a laugh with us before the mayhem they call ‘christmas’ continues.

Pull at the Bowgie

If you’re planning to come to the Bowgie to pull, you might be in luck.

We’re not talking about stealing a cheeky kiss under the mistletoe with a new acquaintance (although that might happen) we’re talking about the Bowgie Christmas Crackers!
Each Sunday during Advent we’ve been giving away a little treat with every turkey or veggie roast and this Sunday is no exception.

This is an extra special cracker because it’s the last one and if you know us at all, you know that we like to make the fun last as long as possible. That's why we thought that a free £5 voucher that can be used between 5-9pm during January was the perfect treat for everyone who has a turkey or veggie roast this Sunday the 21st of December.

The free christmas pud went down a nicely, as did the free cider and mulled wine and we knew that something that would make the christmas spirit last well into the new year would give you all something to smile about!

So don’t miss your chance to pull the final Bowgie Christmas Cracker of 2014! Come along, order a roast and get your £5 voucher for January 2015... cracking!

Join us to compare stories of christmas dinner disasters; show off your new christmas clothes and pose at the bar; avoid another turkey sandwich and bring the family for a bite to eat or get your mates together to see in 2015 in style.

Another Sunday, another Bowgie Christmas Cracker!

According to the source of all knowledge (namely wikipedia) Tom Smith invented crackers in 1847.

little did he know that the gimmick he created to sell his bonbon sweets would become a must at every christmas dinner table in the land. Now at this point we want to make it clear that we are in no way undermining the greatness of crackers.  167 years ago we appreciate that anyone pulling a cracker would be filled with awe. they would hear a bang and receive a surprise - the likes of which they had never seen before.

Fast forward to Christmas 2014 and we have to say that the thought of receiving another pack of mini screwdrivers and waiting to hear the punchline of a truly terrible joke does not inspire awe. At all. (we like the hats though)

So this year at The Bowgie Inn, Crantock we have come up with our own version of Christmas Crackers.

On Advent Sundays throughout December we’re giving away a treat to rival the contents of any cracker when you order a turkey or veggie roast dinner with our Christmas Crackers Promotion.

On Sunday the 7th of December you enjoyed a free Christmas Pud and this Sunday the 14th of December you can choose either a mulled wine or cider on us
And what’s in store on 21st December? We’ll keep that one a surprise. For now at least.

So enjoy a real Christmas Cracker that even Tom Smith himself would approve of with The Bowgie’s Christmas Crackers!

The Star of the Christmas Play

This blog is for anyone that has ever attended a School Christmas Play.
You await the announcement of the parts with baited breath. The mothers on the playground are weighing up the competition for the lead roles with questions like ‘ Has little Johnny recovered after his virus last week? You don’t want him over doing it else he will be ill again for Christmas’. We all know that she is hoping little Johnny won’t be up to singing the solo because her son is the backup choice.

Anyway, despite the fierce competition and underhand tactics you still have your fingers crossed your child will get a lead role.

They don’t.

They get ‘Goat number 4’
Once the disappointment subsides you decide that this is going to be the best enactment of a goat anyone has ever seen… they even have to say ‘I’m a hungry goat’ so at least it’s a speaking part.
You set to work with needles, thread, fake fur, felt and wool and try to create the fantastic costume you have in your mind… after a few late nights in front of the sewing machine you decide that a brown jumper and stick on ears will have to do instead.

When the day comes you are too late to get a seat. As you stand at the back you strain to see your little goat, who has typically been stood behind a child dressed as a christmas tree so you only manage to catch a glimpse of them whenever the tree sways to the left.
They step up to read their line just as you bend down to your bag to switch off your phone that is ringing. Goat Number 4 delivers their line so fast that by the time you push silent and stand back up, it’s over.

Never mind.

At the Bowgie Inn Crantock we know just how important your little star is (or should we say goat).

That's why our children’s menu is crammed with plenty of choices to fill up their tum post-performance. Be they a sausage or fish finger type of kid, we have the perfect option.

With food served all day weekends and between 11 and 3 and again from 5pm week days, there’s plenty of time to drop in for a pint, blackcurrant squash and a burger.

It’s also a good place to plan your strategy for getting the lead in next year’s play…

The Bowgie Christmas Crackers

At The Bowgie Inn, Crantock, we’re impatient.
we’re the kind of people who skip past the first few songs on our Christmas CD to get to our favourite track.
We’re the kind of people that open advent calendar doors earlier than your supposed to.
And yes, we are the kind of people who peel open a bit of wrapping paper to seek a peek at what’s inside.
We can’t help it. We just don’t see why you should have to wait to enjoy a treat.
That’s why we aren’t waiting until Christmas Day to treat all our lovely Customers. On Advent Sundays throughout December you can enjoy a special little treat when you order a turkey or veggie roast dinner with our Christmas Crackers Promotion.

On Sunday the 7th of December you can enjoy free Christmas Pud!
On Sunday the 14th December you can choose either a mulled wine or cider on us
And what’s in store on 21st December? We’ll keep that one a surprise. For now at least.

The Bowgie’s Christmas Crackers… because being impatient can be a good thing!

Christmas Jam Night Tomorrow!

Christmas Jam Night
Tomorrow Night it’s our Christmas Jam Night.

Melting Pot Jam Nights at the Bowgie Inn, Crantock, have become somewhat of an institution because of all the fantastic Musicians who join us and Gerry Gillard for a jam throughout the year. So we’d like to give a great big ‘festive fanks' (or ‘thestive thanks’ if you prefer) to those talented individuals who make the melting pot so special.

This Thursday’s Jam Night is going to have a christmas feel with a festive buffet and a free drink on arrival. It’s just the Bowgie’s way of saying Happy Christmas! Seasonal attire is optional but totally encouraged, so be a sport and dig out that santa tie and that reindeer jumper.

Jam Night is popular because all genres, all ages and all instruments are melted together to make for wonderfully laid back evening of music with something to get every toe tapping. All the professional equipment is provided including drums, acoustic and electric guitars, bass, piano, amps, PA and mics. so if you can strum a tune, hold a note, tinkle the ivories and so on,  get yourself down to the Bowgie and share your festive favourites in our jam session . Don’t worry if you’re not musical -there’s always lots of people who come to listen, drink, dance and be merry!

But musicians take note; We wish to make it known that if we don’t hear any Chris Rea tomorrow night we will be disappointed…we’re also secretly hoping for a spot of George Michael too, but Shhh, don’t tell anyone!

Funny Cocktails

We love a cocktail. We also love cocktails dresses and cocktail sausages but that’s a separate blog entirely.
The best thing about cocktails (apart from the little umbrellas) is the names.
The word ‘cocktail’ is itself bizarre, so it makes sense to keep the strangeness flowing with names like Fuzzy Naval, Sex on the Beach and Woo Woo.

However, we’ve noticed that many people stick to what they know and feel that asking for a jug of pimms is a safe bet.

That is true, but come on people! Live a little! Make it a Turbo Pimms at least.

We understand that you may have been somewhere and ordered an exotic sounding cocktail. You’ve watched the bar tender prepare it as if he were performing a ballet. You’ve excitedly watched as the freshly shaken liquid is poured slowly over ice and handed to you… then you’ve sipped it and… URGH! disgusting!

We’ve made sure that our cocktail menu only has nice cocktails on it, so choosing a good one is fool-proof! Although we understand your caution, we advise you throw that caution to the wind and next time you are ordering at the bar and go for something you’ve never tried before like a Caribbean Mule or a Cuba Libre. Need a bit of a pick me up? The Honey Jack Enigiser may be what you’ve been missing.

The world of cocktails is full of exciting combinations just waiting to be discovered and the Bowgie Inn Crantock is the perfect place to discover a new tipple... or two.

James Bond Theme Night for Cornwall Hospice Care

Every man wishes he was a smooth as James Bond. No matter how much he denies it, he has at some point posed with his fingers in a pistol shape, he has watched his reflection in the bathroom mirror and tried to  raising one eyebrow like Sean Connery. He has practised a smouldering ‘Roger Moore’ look and he has even considered buying a pair of those blue swimming trunks that Daniel Craig wore so well.

However, bond does raise some questions as well as eyebrows.
For instance, how did Roger Moore manage to pull so many fit birds with that chest wig? How did such an Connery manage such daring stunts in such a restrictive suit, particularly by 1971 in ‘Diamonds are Forever’ when he was carrying a few extra pounds? Why do people forget George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton? Why doesn’t Bond ever realise that the sexy lady is a baddie?

The answer to all these questions is Mojo.

Thats the best thing about Bond. He proves that with the right suit and the right attitude any man can achieve any thing.

So on Saturday the 13th December we’re giving everyone the chance to channel their inner Bond, villain or bond girl right here at the Bowgie Inn Crantock in support of Cornwall Hospice Care.

Our Bond themed fancy dress evening includes live music from Cool as **** Blues and Funk with Bond events, food and activities to thrill and excite.
So shake it, stir it, do whatever you fancy! Tickets are £25 pp with discounts for group bookings of 10 or more.

Project Lightning is Underway!

We all get old, it’s an unfortunate by-product of living.
Stuff also gets old.
Beautiful things that were once much loved are forgotten with time. Extraordinary feats of engineering gather dust and rust as the years go by.

But time doesn’t erode the memories of greatness which is why when we saw the old F6 Lightning Jet cockpit around 15 years ago we had to buy it.

It was our way of saving a piece of history. The F6 Lightning XR747 was first and last British-built, supersonic fighter and interceptor. there were only ever a handful of this specific jet ever built and in the skies of the cold war, it was potent symbol of power. The F6 was ready for action with just a few minutes notice and could reach exceptional heights at record speed.

It’s airborne agility was something we were always in awe of and it’s preservation was something we were extremely passionate about.

That’s why it took us so long to decide what to do with our cockpit! Other opportunities arose over the years but nothing that was quite right. However, that all changed when we heard from the 20 Sqn which is part of the Devon and Somerset Wing Air Training Corps.

Having recently moved to their new Headquarters in Victoria Park, Bideford, with 24 keen young cadets and a team of dedicated staff we had
finally found people who shared our passion.

It seemed like the perfect time to embark on an exciting project so 20 Sqn have moved the cockpit to their premises and have already began a substantial restoration project. They are meticulously polishing, cleaning and fixing, and they may even succeed in powering up the cockpit!

You can follow their progress here https://www.facebook.com/pages/Project-Lightning/322842821231430  and as you can see from their pictures, just a couple of weeks into the project and it’s looking better already.

We cannot wait to see how this project unfolds and we will keep you up-dated with any news and developments.

Happy Movember

Over the last few years, the winter months have become somewhat hairer than they used to be.

It’s all thanks to fund and awareness-raising efforts in aid of mens health issues such as male cancers and associated charities.

It’s been quite phenomenal how something as simple as a moustache can encourage men to have a feel, get em checked and see a doctor.

We’re proud of everyone taking part in Movember and Decembeard but we are aware of the hair growing disparities between participants. Some men only have to sneeze and they have a full-on Brian Blessed whereas others have been growing a moustache since 2012 and only now have people started to notice.

We would like to encourage all Movemberians by reminding them that with facial hair it’s not how much you wear, but knowing how to wear it well. Grooming is key; we like to think that a chap has had to comb his whiskers before leaving the house and possibly even set it in place with a touch of specialist wax. You need to become more than just facial hair fund raisers, you need to succumb to the power of the tash.

At the Bowgie Inn Crantock, we’re here to support you as you get used to life with a hairy upper lip and therefore are offering a free straw with every drink purchased. Well, you wouldn’t want a soggy moustache now, would you?

Good luck guys and happy Movember!

Remembrance Day

Today we wear poppies in honour of the brave men and women who lost their lives during wartime.

During the Summer months as we look out over the red poppies that dance in the breeze on the headland so close to us here at The Bowgie Inn Crantock we can’t help but think of the soldiers who paid the ultimate price.

Today we proudly wear our poppies as an emblem of remembrance and a sign of respect.

We are thankful for what they did for us everyday, but today at 11am we will all unite to reflect on all the beautiful souls that were taken too soon from the people who loved them. We’ll think of all the heartache and all the dreams that were never fulfilled. We’ll think of the freedom we enjoy because of these soldiers and for their bravery, selflessness and courageousness, we give eternal thanks.

Lunch for a Fiver ends 28th November!

We have all heard older relatives exclaim in horror ‘how much?’ whenever they are handed a bill. We have all had to sit through countless rants that begin with the phrase ‘Back in my day…’

Yes we know it’s an undeniable fact that things were cheaper but it’s all relative to earnings and inflation.

Granny loves to tell us that in the 1950s the average price of a 3 bed semi was just £1000, you could buy a loaf of bread for pennies and a pint of beer for just 9p.

Yeah yeah, we’ve heard it all before, but the modern world isn’t so bad you know Granny… for instance, did you know you can enjoy lunch for a fiver at the Bowgie Inn Crantock? Even she can’t argue with value that good and she certainly wouldn’t turn her nose up at our hearty portions of cauliflower cheese, ratatouille, homemade quiche ,burgers, baked potatoes, a steak cornish pasty or a Ploughmans.

But hurry! The offer ends on the 28th November and then she will go back to her usual spiel and will probably pull some corker out of the bag like
‘in my day I could go out with a shilling go to the pictures, fly to Paris for a shopping trip, hire a butler like Carson from Downton, get my hair done and still have change for the bus home’.

To which the only logical answer would be ‘go home Granny, you’re drunk.’

Good Things Happen Next to an Open Fire

Imagine your perfect cosy interior (go on, play along!) The chances are you are imagining a scene involving a sofa and a roaring log fire. If that is the case, you'll be pleased to know at the Bowgie Inn in Crantock, our log fire is now lit.

Open fires are the epitome of comfort.

A radiator doesn't have the same romance as flickering flames. Gathering around a storage heater isn’t half as inspiring and even the blue flames of a gas fire only evoke a fraction of the enthusiasm as the real crackles, embers and soot of burning logs.

There is something magical about a real fire that enhances the experiences and memories that are made around it. We like to think that all of mankind's greatest achievements were planned around an open fire.

So now the darker nights are creeping closer and the winds are getting frostier, come and spend the perfect winter evening around the fire at the Bowgie. with lunches served until three and evening meals from five, you have the perfect excuse to eat, drink and be warm with us.

We ain't afraid of no ghosts...

If only we could truly say 'I ain't afraid of no ghost'...
We cower behind cushions when we're watching horror films, we look over our shoulder when we're walking in the dark and we find things that go bump in the night to be somewhat unnerving.

So Instead of scary stories this Halloween, we are sharing our favourite spooky jokes.

How do you make a witch itch?
Take away her ‘w’.

What’s a ghosts favourite chat up line?
Hey BOOtiful.

What is a vampire's favorite fruit?
A necktarine.

What did Dracula say after reading all these jokes?
They suck!

Ok Dracula, so maybe we will leave comedy to the professionals and we’ll stick to pulling pints, but we promise they get funnier the more drinks you have! Come and join us tonight for live music and acoustic covers from Idle Hans and feel free to dress up if you want to... our bar staff will be suitably costumed for what's set to be a frightfully fun-filled evening.

Happy Halloween from all of us here at The Bowgie! Mwa ha ha ha (That’s our evil laugh)

Treat or treat?

Trick or Treat

It’s a strange question and one which most people will answer ‘treat’.
Choosing the other option seems a little dangerous and as far as we’re concerned it’s also a little foolish.
you see, we like treats. In fact we love them which is why when it comes to desserts, we do them properly.
you can enjoy a bowl of utter deliciousness slathered in custard, cream or ice cream for just £5; a small price to pay for something that has the power to make every man drool within a three mile radius.

We’ve been serving up our delicious home made treacle tart for generations but our apple crumble and jam sponge will also make you weak at the knees.
Just watch the rich dark toffee sauce ooze seductively over your spoon as you delve into the sticky toffee pudding and listen as the melting ice cream that slowly trickles over the warm chocolate fudge cake whispers ‘eat me’.

So this halloween shout TREAT TREAT TREAT!!!! and give in to the temptation of the utterly scrumptious desserts at The Bowgie Inn, Crantock!

You can’t enjoy the West Country without sampling a glass or two of cider. That’s why the Bowgie Cyder Fest is an absolute must this Half Term.

You can expect no less than 16 ciders to sample all bubbling with appley goodness. From Old Rosie at 7.3% to a milder Rattler or Strawberry Lane, we’ve got something to quench the thirst of every cider drinker.

There’s live music every evening with acts such as Cool as ****, Country Mark, DNA, Idle Hands, Joe Hurworth, Worlds Apart Covers and of course the Melting Pot Jam Session. Plus as it’s half term, we have done our bit to help you occupy your energetic offspring with fun activities for the whole family including face painting, games and treasure trails.

Food is served all day from 11 - 9, so come and discover that that there’s more to apples than meets the eye at the Cyder Fest Crantock from 25th - 31st October!

Generosity and Gratitude

It’s quite probable that we have the most generous staff and customers around. Why? because together we have raised nearly £20,000 for Cornwall Hospice Care since 2012… and we’re still going strong!

Our fundraising activities have included Sally's Mount Everest and Kilimanjaro Treks, the Ale Festivals, Bowgie Friday Nights Revisited, James Bond Night, plus sponsorship forms and collection tins on the bar.

We would like to thank each and every person who popped a pound in the tin, joined us on a fund raising night or sponsored Sally’s climbs as every penny has gone to support a Cornish Charity that provides specialist care to people living with Life limiting illnesses. It’s the only adult Hospice Care provider in Cornwall and they are truly amazing. Take a look at their website http://www.cornwallhospicecare.co.uk and read some of the Hospice Stories to see why we are so inspired and dedicated to helping them continue their work.

We have another fundraiser planned for the 13th December - it’s a James Bond Night so come along to The Bowgie, Crantock, have a great time and show your support for Cornwall Hospice Care.

Thursday 16 October 2014

K9 Crusaders

We were really pleased to receive this certificate which thanked us for raising £400.84 for K9 Crusaders. As Dog Lovers we are more than happy to support a local charity that rescues and re-homes dogs across the county and provides behavioural support and advice for owners as well.

So next time you come and see us leave a donation and help yourself to the Bonios on the Bar for your four legged friend. K9 Crusaders are grateful for your support as they can’t carry out their work without it.

Feeling Textual

The problem with having a couple of drinks is that one seems to lose the ability to use one’s phone appropriately.
We have suggested manufacturers install a safety feature to protect inebriated users from sending embarrassing texts to the bloke you fancy, that fit bird in the office or even worse; your ex, but they are as yet unable to come up with something adequate.
At the Bowgie we look back fondly on a happy time of pay phones and pockets of change. Life was simple before texts and whoever invented picture and video messaging has a LOT to answer for.
Unfortunately the danger of drunken messaging is now part of modern life, but at the Bowgie Inn, Crantock we have thought of ways to protect you.

1)Instead of investing in the latest smart phones, go for a less fashionable brick with no options of photos and texts limited to 150 characters.

or
2) Put your phone inside a briefcase with a lock code. Then put the brief case in a suit case, add a padlock then throw the key off the cliff. This isn’t totally failsafe but you would have to be pretty determined to send a text.

or
3)  Maybe just go out without it? We promise you’ll have a really good time here in the real world with real people having real conversations.
Option 3 is our favourite, but that’s because we like to keep it real.

So maybe we’ll see you soon... without your phone?

Kilimanjaro or Crantock?

If the trekking antics of our Sally up Kilimanjaro has inspired you to get walking, we know you are probably facing a dilemma. So to help those of you struggling to decide between a trek to Kilimanjaro or a hike around Crantock, we have compiled a few helpful facts that may aid the decision making process.
Duration
Kilimanjaro – assent to summit takes roughly 6 days.
Crantock – nice gentle circular walk in around 45 minutes.
Health
Kilimanjaro – A third of those who attempt to climb do not make it due to severe altitude sickness.
Crantock – walker generally complete the route without any negative effects to health; unless undertaken in flipflops in which case they can suffer from blisters.
Geographic features
Kilimanjaro – actually comprises of 3 volcanic cones, one of which is still active (yikes!)
Crantock – A previous winner of Best British Beach voted for by BBC’s Coast
Food
Kilimanjaro – food for hikers needs to be high in energy, high in protein and easy to transport.
Crantock – well, thanks to the menus at Bowgie Inn you can have almost anything you want – oh and there’s a well-stocked bar too – something Kilimanjaro is definitely lacking.

So we hope that’s been helpful! We think you'll all agree that doing the circle walk of Crantock that finishes at the Bowgie Inn in time for lunch is your best option.

New Heights

Some people Can.
Some people Do.
Some people Can and Do.
The Bowgie Inn’s very own Sally Pickles is one of those people.
‘What has she done?’ I hear you cry.
She’s only gone and climbed mount Kilimanjaro, that’s what!

Sally’s boots aren’t just made for walking; they are made for fund raising too. Even after her trek to the Everest base camp in 2012, she knew she could challenge herself to reach new fund-raising heights.
It’s an inevitable fact of life that we will all experience loss at some point and Cornwall Hospice Care are there to provide invaluable care and comfort to patients and their families. Sally was deeply moved by the work carried out so lovingly by the staff at the Mount Edgcombe and St Julia hospice, she decided climbing 5895m to the summit of Kilimanjaro was the least she could do.
What’s next for Sally now she has been there, done that, got the t-shirt and a few blisters to prove it?
Who knows, but while she decides, maybe a nice walk from the Bowgie Inn around Crantock will have to do for now!

Cookie Month

As it's cookie month, here at The Bowgie Inn we are showing our appreciation for the round, crumbly biscuits of joy with a little poem:

Oh Cookie my love,
My heavenly treat,
You are all I think of,
You make my life complete.
You're bumpy, brown and 'disky',
No one can deny
Tea-dunking can be risky
So I'll eat you when you're dry.

To show your love of cookies you too could pen a poem... or instead, you could just come and enjoy a Byron Bay Cookie or two at the Bowgie Inn, Crantock! We think we've done exceptionally well to write a blog about Cookie Month without mentioning the Cookie Monster. Aah. Ooops. Sorry.

Steak Night

Here at The Bowgie Inn, Crantock we've heard some exciting news on the grapevine; news that will change the conventions of human communication and news that could change your life forever my friend.

The news is that flowers are passe. Forget 'say it with flowers' and instead live by the adage 'say it with steak'.

The best things about it is you don't even have to make a meaty bouquet. You can just order it on a plate at the Bowgie Inn.

We've made it extra-easy to convey your message with our Saturday Steak Night Menu. Say sorry with a sirloin, tell her you love her with a fillet and subtly suggest taking your relationship to the next level with a rump.

So whatever you have to say, say it char-grilled with chips at The Bowgie Inn's steak night every Saturday!
