No Half Measures When it Comes to Fundraising Here at The Bowgie Inn

Here at The Bowgie Inn, we have long been supporters of local Charities, dedicating our time to raising money to causes that directly impact the local community.

One of these Charities, Cornwall Hospice Care (CHC), have benefited greatly, from the support of our famous Pink Pub and this year is no exception.

Pub Owner and Manager, Sally Pickles’s connection to CHC, began when she attended an event in 2011. Inspired by what she heard, Sally left having learnt about the obstacles faced by those who established the very first Hospice Care beds in Cornwall.

Shortly after, Sally had the opportunity to become involved with the challenge of a lifetime, a trek to the Everest Base Camp. Never one to shy away from a bit of hard work, Sally embarked on the Trek in November 2012 and despite not having any personal ‘reasons’ for taking part, she shared an emotional and spiritual journey with fellow trekkers whose stories left a lasting impression.

The entire life-changing experience humbled Sally, and on returning from the trip, she decided that this was just the beginning of her business’s support for the charity.

In 2013, we raised £5,000 through events including their annual 4-day Ale Festival,  fundraising trips and donations.

2013 was such a successful year for fundraising, thanks to the generous support from our customers...every penny made a huge difference. But this year, I’m hoping to top it!” said Sally.

Which won’t be difficult, as this year, she’ll be trekking to the top of Africa's tallest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro in September.

It’s a massive challenge I know, but I’m more than ready to face it! I’ve heard so many inspiring and moving stories that at this point, I feel so passionate, it will take more than a bit of altitude sickness and grueling conditions to stand in my way!

Taking the Rongai route to the summit at 5,895m, Sally’s hoping that customers and the local community will be as generous as ever and support her in this testing trip, and with every penny raised going to CHC, it all counts.

The annual Ale Festival will take place again across the August Bank Holiday, which will give the public the opportunity to show their support, whilst basking in the Summer sun with the Country’s finest ales.

It’s not going to be easy, but I’m determined and with everyone behind me, this year will be a record-breaking year for fundraising at The Bowgie. We are all affected by loss at some point in our lives and the talk I listened to back in 2011, proved to me made me we can all make a difference if we try” said Sally.

Anyone wishing to sponsor Sally on her Kilimanjaro Trek can do so here at The Bowgie.

Summer Dining Alfresco Style at The Bowgie

While we’ve been basking in the heat wave that’s hit the UK in recent weeks, winter comfort food has become a distant memory. So what do you tickle your taste buds with while you’re admiring Cornwall at its best?

The Bowgie Summer menu of course! While The Bowgie is somewhat famous for its Fish Pie, there’s plenty on the menu to keep you refreshingly satisfied over the Summer months.  From Smoked seafood, sourced from the smokehouse at St Mawes, which includes mackerel, salmon, trout and mussels, to your traditional Ploughman’s and Huntsman’s lunches, Jacket Potatoes with delicious filling and mouthwatering Quiches, to tuck into after you’ve worked up an appetite, strolling along the rugged Coastline. Room for more? Then enjoy Cornwall’s finest ice-cream, or for an American twist, treat yourself and the kids, to the new Ben and Jerry’s range with everything, from Chocolate Fudge Brownie, to Caramel Chew Chew.

The Bowgie really does boast the most spectacular views in Cornwall and with a Summer packed with live music every night throughout August and plenty more Sports action with the Commonwealth Games, there’s nothing more appealing than a Cornish stay-cation.

Alfresco dining is also available, with a massive Beer Garden overlooking the turquoise waters of Crantock Bay. Cool yourself down with an ice-cold beer and with the August Bank Holiday Ale Festival just around the corner, Summer’s only getting started...

A week ago today, saw our massive competition winner Kieran Brown, celebrate in style as he watched Germany beat Argentina in the 2014 World Cup Final.

Whilst the Sport this Summer hasn't fared well for Great Britain, there's plenty more time to redeem ourselves. The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games are right around the corner, and promise plenty more action, with everything from Triathlon's, Diving and Boxing, to Shooting, Powerlifting, Judo and Lawn Bowls. Even those who aren't in the competitive spirit, will be partial to at least a cheer or two as they watch the athlete's compete...

The Opening Ceremony kicks off on July 23rd, where 40,000 spectators inside the stadium of the Scottish Premiership champions will be treated to a stunning night of entertainment from Scottish icon Rod Stewart, former Britain’s Got Talent finalist Susan Boyle and Amy McDonald to name but a few.

We couldn't be more excited, and with 17 sports in 11 days, there's only one place to be....The Bowgie!

That's right, our 70" screens are proving to be very popular and with spectacular views, delicious Food and Ales, not forgetting the friendliest atmosphere, it's a little slice of heaven.

Spectacular Storms Hits Cornwall and The Bowgie couldn't be any more alive and kicking

In the first wave of storms expected to hit the County, lighting lit up the skies across Cornwall last night and The Bowgie was no exception.

Partial to a bit of night-time activity and loud noise, we've grown accustom to memorable nights and spectacular views. In-fact, we almost missed the thrashing of the thunder and lightning as we were busy enjoying our Famous Jam Night Melting Pot Sessions, this time with the brilliant Gerry Gillard.

Luckily, we have these awesome photos to show you just what you missed if you were curled up in bed last night...

As for our brilliant Gig Guide, with live bands throughout August, there's still plenty of time to get yourselves down here and enjoy a fun-filled night at The Bowgie.

World Cup Final - there's nowhere we'd rather be....

Our hopes for the World Cup 2014 were dashed early on in the tournament, but it's been a few weeks now and we're super excited about the final on Sunday, especially as we get to see it on 70" HD screens here at The Bowgie.

So far the atmosphere has been electric and the eagerly anticipated game between Argentina and Germany is set to be no different, reviving memories of World Cup Finals gone by.

After Germany stomped Brazil, Argentina put forth a valiant effort on July 9 to defeat the Netherlands 4-2 on penalty kicks and advance to the World Cup final.

Whoever your money is on, bring yourself down to Crantock and we'll bring you the best ales, views, pub grub and friendly staff to ensure which ever team reigns supreme in 2014, you'll never forget where you were and the time you had.

When the fields come alive

If you’ve been spending more time outdoors, enjoying the rugged coastline, secluded beach spots and the fresh sea breeze on a summer’s day, then you will have found Cornwall’s unique and awe inspiring beauty everywhere.

The West Pentire Headland is no exception and if you’re looking to explore some of the County’s most breathtaking views this summer, then Crantock is one location which will really awaken your senses and remind you why Cornwall is one of the most stunning corners of the earth.

In the last few weeks, West Pentire has been adorned by a sea of scarlet, with Poppies injecting their usual display of colour into the scenic point.

The Bowgie Inn is just a stone’s throw away and with live entertainment and great offers all Summer long and an Ale Festival just around the corner, there’s nowhere else we’d rather be this summer.
