You Mum is Nice so Bring her to The Bowgie

10 Reasons why Mums are Nice.

  1. They smell good.
  2. They give good cuddles.
  3. They have never found wiping your nose repulsive.
  4. They would always give you their last chocolate.
  5. They have always been easy to manipulate into buying you something.
  6. They control Dad so effectively he doesn’t even realise it.
  7. They think you are at your most beautiful/ handsome in you natural, un-groomed state.
  8. They gave you your good genes (dads are responsible for the rest)
  9. They have magical powers to sense when something is wrong.
  10. They swell with pride at even your most mediocre achievements.

We think you’ll agree that our list is pretty comprehensive. We also think you’ll agree that because of the reasons above, the old dear deserves a bit of a treat this Mother’s Day.

You could send her off to the Bahamas for a luxury spa retreat but she probably wouldn’t like that; it’s not really her ‘thing’. The only thing she wants is to spend time with you. That’s why you’ll be interested to hear our Mothering Sunday Offering.

For just £15 per person (£8.50 for the littlies) your Ma can enjoy a famous Bowgie roast of either beef, pork, turkey lamb or veggie followed by a delicious dessert of chocolate fudge cake, apple crumble, treacle tart, sherry trifle, bread and butter pudding (all mums like this for some reason) or cornish vanilla ice cream.

So bring your Madré, Mama, Ma, old dear, Mom, Mam or Mummy to The Bowgie Inn, Crantock on the 15th of March for Mothering Sunday.

Pancake Day

Pancakes are joyously round frisbees of happiness. Every year we see 'pancake day' on the calendar and we think 'oh yeah! I remember pancakes! I like those!'

We see countless pancake recipes on day time TV shows oozing with sauce and dripping with maple syrup and quite frankly we can't imagine ever eating anything else ever again.Ever.

But once we've cracked a few eggs and scraped a few burnt bits of batter off the lightshade the novelty soon wears off. You never have the right fancy accompaniments in the cupboard and a tiny squirt of lemon juice just isn't quite the same. Plus can anyone remember when they bought that plastic squeezy lemon juice thing? I think it's been in the fridge since the millennium.

Thankfully this Pancake Day the Bowgie Inn, Crantock have ensured that your pancake urge will be totally satisfied without the need for re-painting the kitchen ceiling.

From just £2.99 you can enjoy perfectly tossed pancakes topped with ice cream, sugar and lemon, chocolate sauce, maple syrup or strawberries and cream.

Then you can carry on with your life with a smile on your face until next pancake day. Don't kid yourself into thinking you'll eat them more often. We all do that. We eat a pancake and say ' these are so nice i'm going to make them all year round'. It won't happen. It will be another 365 days before the thought of eating a pancake enters your head again.

A Big Bond Thank you!

As you know from our recent bond night we LOVE JAMES BOND. It was this love that enabled us to raise £1120.50 for Cornwall Hospice Care.
But what is it about Bond that is so special?
For us, it has to be the Gadgets. The gadgets have always been amazeballs and without them it’s quite possible that Bond wouldn’t have made it out of the 60s. Take the ingenious seagull snorkel from Goldfinger for example.

The seventies were equally as impressive when it came to gadgets with  a magnetic watch and hairbrush transmitter making an appearance in Live and Let Die.

The 80s weren’t to be out-done with a fake crocodile craft in Octopussy and a rappelling Cummerbund in a Licence to kill.

The 90s saw Piers Brosnan sporting a pair of x-ray glasses and the 2000s didn’t disappoint with virtual reality simulators, mini pcs, ear pieces and underwater breathers.

Yep, the gadgets are good alright but there is something in this world far better than any Bond Gadget (even better than the jetpack) and that is the compassion, care and support given by everyone at Cornwall Hospice Care.

The £1120.50 that YOU helped us raise will be put to good use and will make a real difference to people living with life-limiting conditions in Cornwall. So all that’s left to say is a huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the James Bond Night. You made a difference. Keep an eye out for other fun fundraising events at the Bowgie of the coming months.

Romantic Steak Night

Ketchup is red
Steak can be blue
It's Steak Night at the Bowgie
We’ve got a table for you.

Ok so we might not be the most romantic poets around but our Saturday Steak Night has become legendary in these parts and we know you all love a steak.

We also know that choosing where to go on a date can be a difficult task.

Well,  look no further than The Bowgie. It’s the perfect place to woo any day of the week, but Saturday is extra special with the scent of steak in the air.

So lads, call her up (or text her if you prefer) and tell her you are bringing her to to Bowgie on Saturday Night.
You can chow down on a tasty bit of rump or sirloin and get stuck into a side of onion rings whilst sitting opposite you, your lady will be looking at you with doe-eyes thinking she is the luckiest girl alive. Little does she know you are using date night as a ruse to allow you to enjoy a steak with pepper sauce and a cheeky bit of garlic bread. Plus we show every sporting event imaginable on our 70 inch screens so date night is getting better and better.

Don't worry boys, we won't blow your cover. We understand how strong the carnal desire for red meat can be at times. If you like, you could offer her your grilled mushrooms. That will really convince her that you bought her to The Bowgie Inn Crantock because you love her and not just because you fancied a steak. With the romantic sea views she'll be none the wiser.

Choose between two sirloins and a bottle of house red or white for £30 or an 8 oz rump for £10.50 - which is usually £13.50! Brilliant! Everyone loves a cheap Date.

Glamping

You’ve heard of glam rock but those lycra catsuits and shiny platform boots have nothing on glamping. Glamping is perfect for those of you who want to camp in style. It’s the excitement of a sleeping bag with the added benefit of being able to watch netflix and straighten your hair in the morning.
So if glamping sounds like your thing then Hendra Holiday Park, Newquay could be the place for you! Their premium caravans have all the top of the range features and home comforts and you could even stay in a cute, cosy hendra pod which all the fun of camping with solid walls, heating and electricity! just bring your camping equipment and away you go! As The Bowgie Inn, Crantock is Hendra’s closest pub with sea views it’s no wonder we get to meet lots of the Hendra happy campers (or glampers!)Their entertainment, fun pools and facilities are truly fantastic; but don’t just take our word for it, click the link and see for yourself!

A Holiday for Those Who Want it All.

When it comes to Holidaying in Cornwall, some people want it all. They want great views, a stunning location, fantastic local amenities and a place to stay that’s close to their favourite pub, The Bowgie Inn Crantock (most importantly we think). Trevornick Holiday Park in Holywell Bay is perfect for those who want it all. It’s just a short drive to The Bowgie Inn and is in an ideal location if you fancy a walk around the headland. They won holiday park of the year last year and with all the fantastic facilities and kids clubs available, it’s easy to see why. There’s plenty to keep the little ones occupied and with the fishing lake and pitch and putt, there’s enough going on to keep the grown ups happy too! It’s also a stones thrown from the Holywell bay Fun Park. What more could you want?

Some of our Favourite Teas

As we near the end of Hot Tea Month, here at The Bowgie Inn, Crantock, we thought we’d share some of our favourite
Teapigs varieties with you.

Mao Feng Green tea not only makes us sound intelligent when we ask for it, but with all the reputed benefits of green tea, we reckon that we could have found the alternative to rehab, botox and cosmetic surgery. A 'new you' for the price of a cuppa? Now that can’t be bad can it?!

Another one our faves has to be the Chocolate Flake tea. Its name says it all really and if you want the taste of chocolate but without all the calories then bingo! We won’t promise it’ll stop you from wanting to stuff your face with a whole box of chocolates but it will at least hold the urge off for a little while.

The last one we’re going to share with you is great for anyone who dreams of holidays to far off lands, safaris and african sun. Rooibos is an earthy nectar that not only gives you that much needed holiday feeling to combat January blues, but it also is crammed with goodies to flush out toxins from your system.

Tempted to try one of these Teapigs bad boys? We've got 12 to choose from so come on. You can even buy a Bowgie Inn Mug to serve it in. Widen your tea drinking repertoire. Live a little. Branch out. Mix it up. Drink something other than english breakfast and boom… good things will happen.

Ruggers Explained

Rugby Six Nations is set to kick off soon and we’re looking forward to seeing all the action kick by kick, tackle by tackle and scrum by scrum on our 70 inch screens. However, it has come to our attention that some of our regulars (we’ll name no names, but you know who you are) are oblivious to the nuances of this beautiful game so we thought we’d take the time to explain some of the finer points to help enhance your enjoyment of matches.

The Bowgie Guide to Six Nations

It’s called Six Nations because not surprisingly it is a tournament between six nations: England, France Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales.

The Game consists of two 40-minute halves. That means it's shorter than football which has to be a bonus!

Each side consists of 15 players divided into eight forwards and seven backs. That means 30 strapping young men in shorts on the pitch at any one time.

To win, you need to score the most points and there are several ways to do this:
  1. Try. A try is worth five points and is scored when a player places the ball on the ground with downward pressure in the in-goal area between the try line and the dead ball line of the oppositions half.
  2. Conversion. If a team scores a try, they have the opportunity to convert it for two further points by kicking the ball between  the posts above the crossbar. The kick is taken from where the try was scored.
  3. Penalty kick. If a side commits an offence, a penalty is awarded to the opposition and they can take a kick at the goal where the offence occured. If scored, it’s worth three points.
  4. Drop Goal. This is scored when a player kicks the ball from hand through the oppositions goal. The ball must touch the ground between being dropped and kicked. It’s worth 3 points.

When the ball is passed in rugby, it must always travel backwards. Once that becomes clear, the whole game starts to make much more sense.

The tackles are the best bit.  As long as there are no punches, gouges, stamps or kicks to another player pretty much anything goes (except grabbing someone around the neck or tipping them upside down)

Sometimes they do scrums. This is when the eight forwards from each team bind together and push each other. Each side is trying to make it difficult for the opponents hooker (not a lady of the night) to get the ball. These look like fun and we suggest shouts of 'go on my son' and 'get in there' throughout the duration of a scrum.

Then there are some other complicated bits and pieces like offside,  loose play etc which we won’t bother explaining as you probably won’t read it anyway!?

We hoped that’s helped. If not, you can still enjoy watching a field-full of muscly men with thighs of steel on 70 inch screens right here at The Bowgie Inn, Crantock….who cares if you don’t understand what’s going on?!

Pie Pint and Pud Day

We asked our customers to share their favourite P words with us.
‘Pies!’
‘Pints!’
‘Puddings!’

They all cheered.

We did hear someone in the corner whisper something about pandas and someone else by the window say something about pyjamas but we ignored them because a) they didn’t really fit in with our promotion and b) they were tipsy.
So based on the favourite ‘p’ words of the majority of customers at the Bowgie Inn at Crantock, we’re proud to introduce to you our Pie, Pint and Pud day on the 23rd January to celebrate National Pie Day!

Hooray!

For just ten of your English pounds, you can enjoy a pie, a pint (or glass of wine) and any pudding from our menu. There’ll be steak and mushroom pie, steak and kidney pie, fish pie, lamb and veg pie, chicken and sweetcorn pie AND turkey and ham pie. My oh my, pie oh pie, how will you choose?

We’ll leave you mulling over that decision and we look forward to seeing you on the 23rd of January! Oh and if you want to bring a panda wearing pyjamas that’s totally up to you.

Tranquil Getaway

As January is now well underway we know that people are beginning to think about holidays for the coming year. We’ve been here long enough to discover plenty of little gems to suit all budgets so over the next few weeks we thought we’d share some of our favourites with you.

If it’s peace and tranquility you are after then Trebellan Park might be just what you’re looking for. It’s in the heart of the Cornish Countryside and there’s a choice of lodges, mill house apartments, luxury caravans as well as the option of hiring a touring pitch. Their beautiful well-stocked fishing lake means that the keen fishing folk amongst you can test your skills and enjoy the stunning location at the same time. Brilliant! Another great thing about Trebellan Park and the sister campsite Cubert, is that they are just a 10 minute drive from the Bowgie Inn Crantock! Hooray!

Hot Tea Month

You can keep your coffee beans and your mocha choca woccadoodys and don’t even come near us with a frappe or iced chai because  January is Hot Tea Month.

What better month to declare Hot Tea Month than the one immediately after nationwide excessive New Year’s Eve alcohol consumption?

At the Bowgie we're well prepared for all  you tea heads wishing to make the most of this special month. We're not just talking about builders tea with a splash of milk and hot water. Oh no. We are far more sophisticated than that and have a huge range of Teapig teas to choose from. Those of you familiar with Teapigs know there’s a cup to suit your every mood. If you're not familiar yet here's a few suggestions we've put together based on how you may be feeling today.

Feeling like a Squashed Hedgehog?  (i.e. Feeling run down!) then a swirling mug of “Super Fruit” bursting with super berries and packed with antioxidants will give you a fruity little lift to help you get up and go.

Feeling posh? Darjeeling Earl Grey is the perfect blend to add refinement to your very soul sip by sip. It’s the best shade of grey that we know and with exotic floral tones and fresh bergamot Darjeeling Earl Grey is definitely the new black.

Feeling well, erm, smelly? Peppermint tea could be your salvation as it will give toxic breath and a dodgy stomach the elbow in no time.

So however you're feeling, come to the Bowgie Inn, Crantock, and experience Hot Tea Month with us. We’ll help you get through the rest of Janaury with a range of tasty Teapigs teas, one sip at a time.

Barry the Seal

Check out this little Dude! This brilliant picture was shared by Mick Simpkin on Facebook.

We have decided to name this lil seal pup Barry and we like to think that he was enjoying a Boxing Day stroll (or slide!) on Crantock Beach after an over indulgent Christmas dinner.

Mick watched Barry trundle all the way back to the sea where he no doubt boasted to his family about making it on to the Bowgie Wall of Fame!
Unfortunately Barry can’t enjoy the free treat on offer for our wall-of-famers but Mick certainly can! Well done Mick! Next time you are at the Bowgie, spot your picture on the wall of fame and get a free treat!

If you fancy a free treat share with us your pictures of time spent at the Bowgie Inn, Crantock and you too could be like Barry and appear in The Bowgie’s Wall of Fame! http://youtu.be/0gsgMIvG3nY

The Bowgie Wall of Fame

We think it was Andy Warhol who said something along the lines that in the future everyone can be famous for 15 minutes. Well Andy, thanks to The Wall of Fame at The Bowgie Inn, Crantock, that time has come, but forget 15 minutes, those who make it to the wall will be there for longer than that!

‘How do we get on The Wall of Fame?’ We hear you all cry. Well it’s simple. The Bowgie Inn has been the setting for many wonderful memories over the years and now we want to see yours.

We’ve seen you with your cameras and your phones recording and snapping away to capture moments in time that made you happy when you were here at the Bowgie. It’s these moments we want you to share with us on Facebook and Twitter.

We're putting together all your best video clips, photos and memories so that whenever our giant 70 inch TV’s aren’t showing your favourite sports, we will show what you send us on Our Wall of Fame.

PLUS if you make it to the wall, you will earn yourself a treat! So BRING ON THE WALL (sorry we couldn’t help ourselves) get sharing, and come and see your special moments on the big screen.
